I can help beta read: •American English  •Canon Elements  •Grammar  •Plot Suggestions
Turnaround for an average length chapter: 4-7 days
Experience: I have worked as part of the Beta-reading team helping Hulettwyo work on her story 'Serivce Unit'.
I have also given some medical type background, info and feedback to a few different authors (including puddinhead)
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read: I will NOT work on vamp Buffy stories under any circumstances.  I really don't like Buffy with fangs and no heartbeat.
I used to try and avoid all human stories,  but I am relaxing my views on that lately, so that  would be on a case by case basis.
Additional Comments: I have direct intensive knowledge (both professional and personal) of the medical field.  I work in a cancer hospital, so can relate and help with that (ie: Joyce's illness, cancer diagnosis & treatments).  I have also been on the patient's side of the bed, having had brain surgery, woke up on a respirator (life support) and seizures (now well controlled with medications) as well I am a survivor of breast cancer so I know how it feels to be a patient undergoing treatments.
I had stepped away from the fandom for awhile, but now I am back and willing to help again.

I can help beta read: •British English  •Grammar  •Plot Suggestions  •Punctuation
Turnaround for an average length chapter: 1-2 weeks
Experience: I have no beta experience, alas. I wrote a small amount of fic a long time ago but not for Buffy. I do read a lot of fic though! And I thought it was time to try to contribute.
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read: No all human or kid fic please.
strong preference for HEA
Additional Comments: I do a certain amount of copy editing in my IRL job so I’m pretty good with grammar and general flow. I’m happy to talk about plot ideas. I’m a bit weak on season 3 but otherwise pretty strong on canon for Buffy itself, although I haven’t seen Angel. I’ve read seasons 9-11 of the comics. I know Latin if anyone wants that for spells? And some other languages? Um.... I know a fair bit about the 19th century in general and London and Cambridge in particular if that’s useful for William background?

Experience: I have never beta’d before, but I read my first Spuffy fanfic at 13 (pg of course!) and I have never looked back. I’ve been reading for a long time, but I really want to be a part of the process now. I myself am not a great fiction writer so I’d love to be a part of the writing process anyway I can. I am an English teacher with a BA in English. I am especially good with grammar and tense continuity and am more than happy to be your copy writer ;) I can turn around a chapter in a couple days during summer and federal holidays but take a little longer during the school year. Weekends are my beta days September-June.
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read: I will not beta any story that includes sexual assault, rape, or dubious consent between Buffy and Spike. I don’t believe that Buffy, even out of character, would accept any romantic advances from someone who assaulted her.
Additional Comments: I will adapt to what you need. If you’re looking for grammar corrections, I got you. If you don’t care about the grammar and only need plot and continuity work then that’s good with me. The beta works for the writer imo and I will adapt to your needs. As an English teacher I hope to provide quality and constructive feedback with both kindness and criticism. At least that’s what my students tell me 🖤

Experience: I've never beta-ed before but would really like to give this a shot. I work as an advertising writer IRL and have been doing this for 16 years. I'm adept at editing and would be happy to help if you want someone to bounce plot ideas with. I'm also a history buff and am available to help you with research should you need it.
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read:
Additional Comments: I'm new to fanfiction and fandom in general although I've been madly in love with Spike for about 20 years.

Additional Comments: Good grasp of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.  Decent knowledge of canon.  Currently reading the comics.

2024 Exquisite Corpse chapter by fortes775 (Exquisite Chaos: Part 2)
A few drabbles by Maldorana
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read: -incest
Additional Comments: I work in healthcare/clinical research. Professional writing has been a huge part of my life and I'm a better editor than writer. I'm an etymology nerd, and take grammar, word choice, spelling, and punctuation very seriously (my old username was intentionally spelled weird - long story).  I hate being taken out of a story by a misused or misspelled word in an otherwise great story, which is why I want to be a beta!
Fan of the Oxford comma.
I have detailed knowledge of BTVS, have watched all of Angel, and read seasons 8-9 of the comics. I'm a voracious reader and love a variety of stories - rated G to super smutty. I started reading Spuffy fic in Dec 2022 after binging the series starting in Sep 2022, and have literally read tens of millions of words worth of stories since then!

Turnaround for an average length chapter: 1-2 weeks
Experience: I first gained beta’ing experience through story feedback exchanges with writer friends in the OF realm.
Since late 2022, I have started beta’ing for EFers on the regular and am loving it.
I try for a 7 day turnaround but have set it to 1-2 weeks for now because I am studying for my master’s as well as working 30h/week, so delays might occur. I am probably most helpful for spelling & grammar, structural edits and input on characterization and story flow. Ultimately I believe your story is your baby (or cat, if you dislike kids, lol) and my job as a beta is to make it shine more while keeping your writing style and ideas intact.
yay
PS: I periodically forget that the DM function on the site exists. I am easier to reach via Discord DM (my username there is sari_simmony).
Story types/topics I will not beta or sensitivity read: I’m generally open to anything, though not a big fan of all human stories. But overall, I pick stories for the tone, themes, characterization and plot, so I wouldn’t categorically say no anything. If the concept excites me, I’m in. I usually want to see an excerpt to see if I'm the right person for your story before fully committing.
Additional Comments: + I speak/read/can help with use of foreign languages (German, French, some Spanish)
+ My day job is in social work so I’m familiar with psychology-adjacent topics.
+ I live in Western Europe so might be able to provide insight into European settings.
+ I love learning about history (especially European and American history), neurodiversity and musical theater. These look weird stuck together but I know a bunch about all three if that should ever, for whatever reason, become relevant.
