In ATS season 5 episode 19 « Time bomb », Wesley who just got back the memories Angel took from them and who cannot let go of Fred decides to make his own plan. When taking away Illyria’s powers of time travel, he doesn’t really send them to another dimension like he lets everyone believe. Instead he stored them in the machine to use to go back in time and save Fred. However he doesn’t have full control and instead of going back a few weeks earlier he ends up back in season 3, on the morning he’s meant to meet Giles and the Scoobies for the first time as Buffy and Faith’s new watcher.

Of course he’s going to organise a rescue mission for Fred straight away, but while he’s here, maybe he can help avoid all the betrayals and heartaches to come?

Must have:

• Wes doesn’t tell anyone he time travelled or at least not for a long while.
• He’s not the pompous idiot he used to be and is willing to let Buffy and Faith call most of the shots this time around and helps on the field, therefore he is respected and appreciated by the Scoobies.
• He tries to save Faith from her downfall (whether he succeeds is up to you).
• Too much history and resentment happened with Angel for him to want to go back to work with him but he will help nudge him towards LA and helping the helpless (hooks him up with Lorne early?)
• He genuinely is impressed by Spike’s story and how he got a soul for himself so when Spike shows up chipped again he will do his best to help him achieve his potential.
• He keeps tabs on Angel in LA (does he make sure Cordelia doesn’t get killed? That Angel doesn’t get Darla pregnant?)
